Job summary

The Ian Martin Group is currently seeking a Server Engineer (Windows and VMware) to join our Industrial IT team in Spring, TX. This contract role focuses on building and supporting Windows-based virtual Process Control environments, patching, security, and reliability across multiple sites.

You will work in a small team, participate in two-week sprints, and have 8–12 weeks of learning before on-call duties begin.

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience building, patching, and troubleshooting Windows servers.
Hands-on VMware experience, ideally version 7.0
Strong Active Directory skills, including access controls and Group Policy
Basic PowerShell or similar scripting skills, plus clear documentation habits
Clear communication with customers and cybersecurity teams
Ability to work onsite in Spring, TX and take part in on-call weeks

Responsibilities

Build and set up servers for new terminal sites with cross-team collaboration.
Patch servers quickly when security weaknesses are found with cybersecurity partners.
Manage Windows and some Linux VMs for performance, security, and availability.
Configure VMware 7.0 and install Nutanix at air-gapped sites on Dell hardware.
Manage Active Directory, including DNS and Group Policy.
Submit change requests and obtain outage approvals for upgrades.
Monitor server performance with SolarWinds or similar tools.
Join a 12-hour on-call rotation and document setups and best practices.
Work in two-week Agile sprints with 8–12 weeks learning time before on-call.
