Base Pay: $17.50 + gratuity and tips
Average total earnings (base + gratuity and tips): $21.50
Position Purpose
Responsible for offering guests an enjoyable, expertly served meal reflecting the high customer service standards of Cal‑a‑Vie Health Spa. The server must anticipate guests’ needs and monitor the table(s) during their meals. A server must maintain a professional appearance and friendly attitude toward guests, other employees and management staff at all times.
Essential Functions
- Create and maintain a welcoming, energetic, friendly and caring atmosphere always for all guests, co‑workers and supervisors.
- Have a thorough knowledge of Cal‑a‑Vie Spa’s mission and values and honor them.
- Perform set‑up, clean‑up and closing duties as specified on the side work checklist.
- Provide professional, courteous, and efficient food and beverage service to guests.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance, cleanliness, professional demeanor and attitude in accordance with the Cal‑a‑Vie policy.
- Greet guests on arrival and offer courteous farewells upon departure, maintaining a friendly tone and welcoming demeanor at all times.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of menu items to accurately answer guest questions.
- Follow the established table service procedures.
- Serve meals by course, placing dishes accurately with awareness of menu items and guest dietary restrictions.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and promptly replenish water and beverages as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of tables, dining room, and service areas.
- Promptly communicate guest requests or concerns to the Shift Leader.
- Train new servers on service standards and guest etiquette.
- Demonstrate teamwork by assisting coworkers.
- Take initiative during downtime to complete tasks.
- Maintain availability for special events, including weddings, buyouts, and corporate retreats.
- Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs, including transporting items, dishwashing, and stocking/rotating inventory.
Position Qualifications
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent; San Diego County Food Handler Certified.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of restaurant/banquet operations including foods, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques and guest interaction.
- Experience: One year server experience (preferred), however we are willing to train the right individual with an interest in hospitality; familiarity with banquet serving a plus.
- Skills/Abilities: Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, maintaining a calm, professional, and respectful demeanor with all individuals.
- Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule including early shifts that begin at 5am and weekends, weekdays, evenings and some holidays; open availability preferred.

Analysis of Physical Demands:
- Occasional exposure to chemical products.
- Requires climbing step stools/ladders to clean areas of the kitchen.
- Frequent exposure to noise from the dish machine.
- Requires working in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. 1‑33% of the time.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, or reach for intermittent periods 67–100% of the time.
- Ability to climb and lift for intermittent periods 1‑33% of the time.
