JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Server provides knowledgeable, attentive, and efficient food and beverage service throughout J. Rieger & Co.’s hospitality outlets and private events. This position guides guests through menu offerings, accurately manages orders and payments, anticipates guest needs, and helps deliver a memorable experience consistent with J. Rieger & Co.’s service standards.

Server shifts are scheduled according to hospitality, private event, and operational needs. Servers may work across multiple food and beverage spaces and may be assigned to public service, ticketed experiences, or private events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Welcome guests promptly and provide attentive, knowledgeable, and professional service throughout their experience.
  • Explain food and beverage offerings, answer questions, and make recommendations based on guest preferences.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of menus, ingredients, preparation methods, allergens, available modifications, and current offerings.
  • Accurately enter orders and communicate dietary needs, allergy-related information, and special requests to the appropriate team members.
  • Deliver food and beverages safely, accurately, and according to established service standards.
  • Monitor assigned tables and service areas, anticipate guest needs, and respond promptly to requests.
  • Follow responsible alcohol-service requirements, including verifying identification and recognizing when alcohol service should be limited or discontinued.
  • Accurately prepare, present, process, and close guest checks using approved payment and cash-handling procedures.
  • Coordinate with Hosts, Bartenders, culinary staff, support staff, Event Captains, and managers to maintain timely and organized service.
  • Recognize guest concerns and work with management to resolve them promptly and professionally.
  • Complete assigned setup, cleaning, stocking, closing, and side-work responsibilities.
  • Assist with table preparation, food running, clearing, resetting, and overall cleanliness when needed.
  • Participate in private event setup, service, transitions, and breakdown when assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of J. Rieger & Co.’s history, products, facility, experiences, and current offerings.
  • Follow all applicable company policies and safety, sanitation, food-handling, alcohol-service, cash-handling, and emergency procedures.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Starting hourly pay of $ [INSERT RATE] per hour, plus a portion of the applicable tip pool.

HELPFUL EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous serving or guest-service experience in a restaurant, bar, hotel, catering, private event, or similar hospitality environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food, cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and responsible alcohol-service practices.
  • Ability to learn and communicate information about menus, ingredients, allergens, and J. Rieger & Co. products.
  • Strong communication, organization, time-management, and guest-recovery skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tables, orders, payments, and guest requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using point-of-sale or handheld ordering systems is helpful.
  • Food-handler and responsible alcohol-service certifications when required.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to remain on one’s feet and move throughout hospitality and event spaces for extended periods, including shifts of eight hours or longer.
  • Ability to frequently walk, bend, reach, twist, crouch, push, pull, and use stairs while providing service and completing assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or appropriate equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to safely balance and carry trays, plates, glassware, food, beverages, and other service items through active guest areas.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with carrying, serving, clearing, polishing, and entering orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members in environments that may be crowded or noisy.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments that may include loud noise, crowds, dim lighting, variable temperatures, weather conditions, wet or slippery surfaces, stairs, and uneven walking surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to food, alcoholic beverages, hot surfaces, broken glass, cleaning products, and other materials commonly present in hospitality and event environments.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts based on business needs.
