Job summary

J. Rieger & Co. in Kansas City, MO is seeking an enthusiastic Bartender to craft cocktails, pour spirits, wine and beer, and deliver attentive hospitality across outlets and events.

You will stock, clean, and maintain bar areas, follow recipes and portion controls, and courteously educate guests on our history and offerings. Evening and weekend shifts, plus private events, are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Previous bartending experience in a restaurant, cocktail bar, distillery, hotel, catering, private event, or similar hospitality environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cocktails, distilled spirits, wine, beer, nonalcoholic beverages, and responsible alcohol service.
  • Ability to follow recipes, presentation standards, and portion controls accurately.
  • Strong communication, organization, time-management, and guest-recovery skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple orders, payments, and guest requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in learning and communicating J. Rieger & Co.’s products, history, and production methods.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests promptly and provide attentive, knowledgeable, and professional bar service.
  • Prepare and serve cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and nonalcoholic beverages according to approved recipes, presentation standards, and portion controls.
  • Maintain knowledge of J. Rieger & Co. spirits, cocktails, menus, ingredients, allergens, and current offerings.
  • Educate guests about J. Rieger & Co.’s history, products, production methods, and tasting or beverage options.
  • Accurately enter orders, prepare guest checks, process payments, and maintain accountability for POS activity.
  • Follow responsible alcohol-service requirements, including verifying identification, monitoring guest consumption, and recognizing when service should be limited or discontinued.
  • Prepare and maintain bar stations by stocking spirits, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, tools, and other supplies.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, organized bar areas throughout the shift.
  • Follow established recipes, measuring practices, inventory controls, and procedures designed to prevent waste.
  • Monitor product levels and report shortages, breakage, waste, spills, and quality concerns.
  • Coordinate with Servers, Hosts, culinary staff, support staff, Event Captains, and managers to maintain accurate and timely service.
  • Recognize guest concerns and work with management to resolve them promptly and professionally.
  • Complete assigned opening, closing, cleaning, restocking, and side-work responsibilities.
  • Assist with private event bar setup, service, transitions, and breakdown when assigned.
  • Follow all applicable company policies and safety, sanitation, food-handling, alcohol-service, cash-handling, and emergency procedures.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Bartender prepares and serves cocktails, distilled spirits, wine, beer, and nonalcoholic beverages while providing knowledgeable and attentive hospitality. This position is responsible for beverage quality, responsible alcohol service, accurate order and payment processing, and maintaining clean, organized, and properly supplied bar areas.

Bartenders are expected to communicate confidently about J. Rieger & Co.’s history, spirits, and beverage offerings. Shifts may be scheduled across multiple food and beverage outlets, ticketed experiences, and private events based on business and operational needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Starting hourly pay of $ [INSERT RATE] per hour, plus a portion of the applicable tip pool.

HELPFUL EXPERIENCE:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to remain on one’s feet and move throughout bar, hospitality, and event spaces for extended periods, including shifts of eight hours or longer.
  • Ability to frequently walk, bend, reach, twist, crouch, push, pull, and use stairs while preparing beverages and completing assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or appropriate equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to lift, move, and stock cases, bottles, kegs, ice, glassware, bar equipment, and other beverage supplies.
  • Ability to perform frequent and repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with pouring, shaking, stirring, cutting, polishing, washing, and entering orders.
  • Ability to safely handle glassware, knives, bar tools, hot liquids, ice, and beverage equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members in environments that may be crowded or noisy.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments that may include loud noise, crowds, dim lighting, variable temperatures, weather conditions, wet or slippery surfaces, stairs, and uneven walking surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to alcoholic beverages, food, broken glass, cleaning products, and other materials commonly present in bar, hospitality, and event environments.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts based on business needs.
