Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Roy, Utah is hiring a Staff Systems Safety Engineer to join its Sentinel program team. The role involves collaborating across IPTs to develop safety artifacts and ensure system requirements are correctly represented in models for safe flight and test readiness.

Qualified candidates will have active Top Secret clearance or the ability to obtain SAP access, extensive experience with MIL-STD-882E, DO-178/DO-254, and strong C/C++ skills in an Agile, MBSE

Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen with an active Secret clearance within the last 6 years.
• Ability to obtain SAP approval within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.
• 12 years of experience with a Bachelor's, 10 years with a Master's, or 8 years with a Doctorate in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, aeronautics, safety, or closely related technical discipline.
• Experience using MIL-STD-882E or similar processes for hardware and/or software design development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts.
• Work with technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design.
• Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
• Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
• Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes for model development, tool integration, and team integration.
• Generate or review design artifacts to support System Safety analyses for safety and flight worthiness.

Position

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Safety Engineer to join its team of diverse and qualified individuals. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts
• Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design
• Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model
• Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis
• Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes for model development, tool integration, and team integration
• Generate or review design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety and support flight test and flight worthiness of complex systems

Basic Qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
• 12 years of experience with a Bachelors of Science degree, 10 years with a Masters, or 8 years with a Doctorate degree in science, engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, aeronautics, safety, or closely related technical discipline
• Experience using MIL-STD-882E or similar processes for hardware and/or software design development

Preferred Qualifications

• Lead a team in software safety processes in Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase
• At least 4 years of using DO-178 or DO-254 for design development
• At least 5 years experience with C/C++, Java, object oriented design or similar software development experience
• Experience developing in an Agile environment
• Model Based Systems Engineering experience
• Experience developing missile flight systems software
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certificate
• Weapon System experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience)
• Active Top Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years

Other Information

• This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off

• Travel: 10% of the time

Compensation

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long term incentives depending on level.
