Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Material Process Engineering Manager II. The position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. Relocation assistance may be available. The position requires a Secret security clearance and involves approximately 10% travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a motivated team of PM&P engineers within a matrixed functional organization, ensuring integration and collaboration across design and manufacturing teams within a Systems Engineering framework.
  • Communicate effectively across engineering disciplines, resolve issues, determine priorities, and implement solutions independently or collaboratively.
  • Provide performance feedback, training, mentoring, coaching, and support workforce planning and career development for team members.
  • Support development and refinement of processes and tools that enable business areas and programs to achieve their missions.
  • Participate in proposal work, independent technical reviews, program stand‑up and audits, and special assignments as needed.
  • Serve as the systems‑engineering liaison for Sentinel Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) on all COTS activities; manage the COTS Management Plan, deliver associated CDRLs, provide trade‑off analyses, evaluate supplier capabilities, coordinate mitigation strategies, and manage DMSMS and GIDEPS activities.
  • Ensure alignment with the Team’s Statement of Work across multiple disciplines, integrating requirements from reliability, accelerated life testing, nuclear hardness, cyber security, environmental constraints, system safety, EMEE, materials/processes, human‑factors engineering, and system security engineering.
  • Act as the Design Point‑of‑Contact (POC) for plug‑in interfaces to integrate COTS components into the overall Sentinel architecture.
Technical Requirements
  • Experience in PM&P, or a combination of Systems Engineering and PM&P engineering disciplines.
  • Experience ensuring PM&P program or contract requirements are applied to parts, materials and assemblies.
  • Hands‑on experience with PLM/ALM tools such as SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Siemens Teamcenter and project‑management software (Microsoft Project, Visio).
  • Track record working with Chief Engineers, Integrated Product Teams, and in agile/digital design environments.
  • Expertise interpreting and enforcing industry/military design standards for parts and materials.
  • Familiarity with disciplines strengthening COTS suitability assessments: reliability engineering, accelerated life testing, nuclear hardness, cyber security, environmental requirements, system safety, electromagnetic environmental effects, parts/materials & processes, human‑factors engineering, system security engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must obtain and sustain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must maintain or obtain SAP approval (if required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, Welding, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
  • Minimum 1 year experience leading a project or driving performance against schedule in a PM&P organization.
  • Experience leading projects or cross‑functional teams.
  • ICBM program experience.
  • Six‑Sigma Green/Black Belt.
  • Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance granted/renewed within the last 6 years; eligibility for Top‑Secret.
  • Experience with PLM/ALM and project‑management tools as listed above.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree in STEM with 6 years of related experience.
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience as a senior‑level manager leading engineering teams.
  • Strong communication, mentoring, interpersonal, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to resolve issues and implement solutions.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills including task delegation and effective two‑way communication at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Salary range: $126,600 – $189,800 annually. The position follows a 9/80 schedule (nine hours Monday‑Thursday; every other Friday off). Possible eligibility for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and other incentives.
