Job summary

Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Senior Planning Specialist for the Zero Waste Programs Division. You will collect and analyze complex information to design innovative strategies to reduce waste and move toward zero waste goals.

The role requires five years in planning or similar, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, strong research and communication skills, and the ability to manage projects and present findings to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in planning, developing, and/or implementing waste reduction and recycling programs, policies, or initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate planning specialization or related field is required.
• An equivalent combination of education or experience may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze information, evaluating impacts of policy and program proposals in terms of cost effectiveness, stakeholder impact, and likely diversion.
• Identify gaps and areas for improvement in the County's waste management and recycling programs; plan and coordinate implementation of new or enhanced programs.
