Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced professional to lead the development and review of large, complex work packages for engineering, maintenance and operations. The role involves ensuring safety, compliance with DOE and QA standards, and collaboration with site teams to resolve issues and guide work control activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-technical field with 4+ years in work control or related area.
  • Associate’s degree in technical/mechanical area with 8+ years of experience.
  • High school diploma with 10+ years of practical experience in work control, maintenance, or related field.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical documents, blueprints, drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency with a computerized work management system for planning activities.
  • Ability to coordinate teams, set goals and priorities.
  • Knowledge of DOE/regulatory and QA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review large/complex work packages with instructions, safety and testing requirements for implementation and control of operations.
  • Provide guidance on lockout/tagout and resolve work package restraints toward final closure.
  • Prepare, review and issue large/complex equipment or system modification work packages.
  • Review electrical/mechanical drawings and specifications to develop modifications for systems.
  • Conduct area walkdowns to identify hazards or anomalies.
  • Provide technical review of work control packages for quality and consistency; mentor others.
  • Analyze time and material requirements for work activity.
  • Prepare, review and issue corrective maintenance work packages.
  • Develop and issue preventive maintenance records and work packages.
  • Discuss problems with site organizations related to work control activities.
  • Offer technical advice to facility management on maintenance/work control in various specialty areas.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Develop and/or review large and complex work packages including written step‑by‑step work instructions, procedures, safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance or modification work activities within a given area
  • May include separately or in conjunction with work control development, recommendations and instruction for mechanical, electrical, radiological, and chemical energy and systems control lockout and tagout, and/or resolving work package restraints and bringing work packages to final closure
  • Prepare, review and issue large and/or complex equipment and/or system modification work packages
  • Review understanding and interpretation of various engineering, design, technical and vendor prints, drawings, schematics, documents, diagrams, and specifications to ensure design information sufficient to develop modifications for electrical/mechanical systems
  • Development may also include a physical walkdown of the area or system to identify potentially hazardous conditions or configuration anomalies
  • Provide work control package technical review for quality and consistency as well as provide work guidance and instruction to other work control personnel in a lead or coordinating capacity
  • Analyze time and material requirements for work activity
  • Prepare, review and issue corrective maintenance work packages
  • Develop and issue preventive maintenance records and work packages
  • Discuss and interface on problems and concerns with associated work control/work package activity with site organizations
  • Provide technical advice regarding maintenance and work control to facility management or work control personnel in any of number of potential specialty areas either in an engineering or subject matter expert capacity
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a non-technical discipline with at least 4 years of practical experience in work control, materials management, E&I / mechanical maintenance, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • An Associate's degree in a technical or mechanical area and at least 8 years of practical experience; or a high school diploma and at least 10 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent
  • Ability to understand and interpret various electrical and mechanical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking work planning activities
  • Ability to coordinate the work of teams, set and meet goals and objectives, and prioritize work
  • A working knowledge of DOE, Federal and state regulations as well as existing engineering and quality assurance standards and procedures
  • Comprehensive understanding of site work control procedures and work practices, radiological control, quality assurance, configuration management, material control and procedures for both maintenance and operations related areas
  • Thorough understanding from a conceptual level of various processes, systems, and equipment
  • Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration and lockout point identification
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance
