Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. This person will have specialized technical expertise and assist in training and mentoring crews of up to 20. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the United States. This person must have a “safety first” attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
  2. Work in and around wind turbines.
  3. Climb multiple wind towers on a daily basis.
  4. Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis.
  5. Demonstrate safety as a top priority.
  6. Install, inspect, maintain, operate and repair wind turbines.
  7. Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the turbine to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly.
  8. Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment.
  9. Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines.
  10. Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  11. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions.
  12. Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems.
  13. Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
  14. Provide technical support and guidance to assure product quality and conformance.
  15. Perform onsite audits of procedures and field processes and drive change as necessary.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must possess an active Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain TWIC Card.
  3. Minimum five (5) years’ experience working in and around wind turbines, specifically for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or two (2) years’ experience and degree or certification.
  4. Technical 2 or 4 year degree or certificate related to mechanical maintenance, wind energy, mechanical engineering, or related preferred.
  5. Experience using basic power and hydraulic tools.
  6. Valid Driver’s License. CDL preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height.
  2. Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  3. Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.
  4. Ability to maintain certification required to perform the work, including but not limited to: First Aid/CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, ArcFlash, etc.
  5. Ability to take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to zero injury principles.
  6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  7. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  8. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  9. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  10. Basic understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  11. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  12. Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO.
  13. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution.
  14. Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation.
  15. Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics.
  16. Ability to use hydraulic tension and torque tooling.
  17. Knowledge of entering and exiting the rotor, including locking out the rotor.
  18. Knowledge of using the internal chain hoist.
