Position Summary:

The O&M Technician is responsible for performing field-level operations and maintenance activities on commercial-scale solar systems. This role ensures optimal system performance through inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, vegetation control, and quality assurance. The technician will operate independently in the field while maintaining close communication with the O&M team and adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Travel Requirements:

This is a field-based role with travel required to solar project sites throughout Northern and Southern California. A company vehicle will be provided for all job-related travel. Technicians are expected to report to our Rocklin, CA headquarters approximately once per month for team meetings, training, or equipment pick-up. MUST have valid license and clean MVR.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform electrical and mechanical inspections, IR scanning, torque checks, and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct site/system assessments and QA/QC inspections.
  • Respond to system alarms and dispatch as needed to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Ensure sites are operating at full capacity and efficiency.
  • Execute site conditioning tasks, including vegetation control and equipment cleaning.
  • Prepare inspection and service reports for site visits, emergency repairs, and equipment modifications.
  • Audit and enforce site processes for compliance with O&M standards.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout, Job Hazard Analysis, and safety protocols.
  • Support procurement and inventory control through accurate documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely completion of work orders and required documentation.
  • Adhere to company vehicle and maintenance safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of solar field experience, particularly in troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Experience in construction or electrical trades.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, schematics, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with national and local electrical codes.
  • Comfortable working with SCADA systems and basic digital interfaces.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist, and climb ladders/stairs throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Tolerance for working in extreme temperatures, sun exposure, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working at heights and on rooftops.
  • Must wear PPE for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color-coded wiring and have good hand-eye coordination.

Preferred Competencies:
  • Experience with QA/QC processes.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Prior use of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) tools.
  • Strong attention to safety with experience in Lockout/Tagout and hazard analysis.
