Penn Environmental & Remediation Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Wetlands Scientist to lead field surveys, delineations, and habitat assessments for site development and regulatory permitting.

The ideal candidate brings extensive wetland experience and a proactive, team-oriented work style. Responsibilities include preparing permit applications, coordinating with agencies, and guiding data analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in environmental studies, planning, natural resources, engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience within environmental consulting and/or regulatory field.
  • Prior wetland delineation and field work experience, with, or ability to obtain PWS certification.
  • Highly motivated with a client-oriented focus; able to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently; able to work in a team environment with interdisciplinary professionals; problem solving and creative thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead field work including wetland delineations and habitat assessments; assist with site investigations and remediation projects as needed.
  • Participate in linear energy planning, routing, and siting studies, as well as site development studies.
  • Write survey reports and prepare permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 and Section 10, Pennsylvania DEP Chapters 102 and 105, and coordination for rare, threatened, and endangered species.
  • Coordinate with and attend meetings with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to timely completion of high-quality work; provide emergency response oversight for spills and releases.
  • Analyze and manage data; perform technical report writing.
  • Support other lines of business, including remediation, soil and water sampling, infiltration testing, etc.
  • Utilize general field skills and knowledge of various field/sampling equipment; apply strong technical writing, computer, and communication skills.
  • Leverage GIS experience where applicable; knowledge in Phase I/II environmental assessments, geologic evaluations, soil and groundwater sampling, and PADEP regulatory programs (including Chapters 102, 105, and Act 2) is a plus.
  • Participate in and potentially lead the development of junior staff; participate in project management duties including cost and scope development, budgeting, and scheduling.
