Job summary

True Environmental seeks a Wetland Scientist to join our Natural Resources team, supporting wetland delineation, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance projects across New Jersey and New York.

You will conduct field investigations, prepare permit applications for NJDEP and NYSDEC, and coordinate with agencies on permit status. A PWS certification or progression is preferred, with strong writing and communication skills essential for technical reports and client interactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field.
  • 2–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Working toward or holds Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification.
  • Familiarity with USACE wetland delineation manual, regional supplements and State manuals.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to conduct fieldwork in varied outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct wetland delineations and boundary flagging per USACE and state methodologies.
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for NJDEP (Freshwater Wetlands, CAFRA, Waterfront Development) and NYSDEC programs (tidal wetlands, protection of waters).
  • Conduct field investigations: soil sampling, hydrology assessments, vegetation surveys.
  • Support threatened & endangered species habitat assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, and agency correspondence.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies on permit status and inquiries.
  • Support GIS mapping and data management for wetland/natural resource projects.
  • Assist senior scientists and project managers with multidisciplinary project delivery.
