Job summary

BlueScope is seeking an experienced Welder 2 to operate and fabricate metal components by reading blueprints and using welding equipment. The role involves complex level work, quality checks, and collaboration with engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.

The candidate should have a high school diploma (or equivalent), 3+ years welding experience, and relevant AWS certifications. The job supports a safe, productive shop with opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent or ACT WorkKeys at certified level.
• 3+ years welding experience.
• AWS D.1.1 Welder Certification preferred (or equivalent).
• 1-year certificate from a technical school preferred.
• 5+ years welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Position, align, fit, and weld parts per blueprints using jigs and hand tools (35%).
• Verify conformance to specs and structural soundness (20%).
• Review drawings to determine material requirements (15%).
• Perform complex welding, fixtures, job-site repairs (10%).
• Participate in continuous improvement and coaching (5%).
• Set up for automated devices or robotic welding (5%).
• Provide training to new welders (5%).
• Maintain housekeeping and 5S practices (5%).
