Job summary

The Senior Welder role with the City of Dallas performs journey-level fabrication and repair welding on heavy equipment, structures, and machinery. It requires reading blueprints, adhering to safety standards, and delivering field repairs using a mobile welding unit.

You will train apprentices, manage welding supplies, and collaborate with maintenance crews to keep equipment in top condition. Evening/weekend shifts may be required; a CDL is needed for some positions.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of welding experience.
• Welding certificate from a trade school plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Some positions require Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
• Subject to evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repair welding on equipment such as large mowers, tractors, trucks and heavy equipment; ensures safety standards.
• Fabricates, welds, and makes metal components according to layouts and blueprints; uses arc, MIG and gas welding equipment.
• Maintains welding supplies inventory and restocks as needed.
• Drives and operates a mobile welding unit for field repairs; communicates repairs/work orders to departments.
• Trains apprentices and monitors work for safety and quality.
