Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform journeyman-level repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel-powered heavy equipment to keep assets in serviceable condition.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, welding, engine/transmission work, electrical troubleshooting, and field service with occasional night or weekend shifts. A strong safety record and team leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
• Three (3) years of experience in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
• Must have a Texas Driver's License with a good driving record.
• Must have a Texas Vehicle Inspection License.
• Must be able to obtain EPA Section 609 license during probation.
• Must be able to obtain ASE T-4 or T-5 coursework during probation.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and diagnoses on heavy equipment using testing equipment.
• Repairs and maintains equipment including transmissions, engines, hydraulics; ensures operational readiness.
• Uses welding to repair or fabricate items; may drive a heavy equipment truck to field sites.
• Tunes and adjusts parts; troubleshoots electrical systems with schematics.
• Documents labor and parts; tracks work orders and inventory; trains junior staff.
