Job summary

Curtiss-Wright is seeking a Senior Welder for the 11pm-7am shift in Summerville, SC. You will fabricate and repair parts by welding to ASME IX and MIL-STD codes, following engineering requirements. The role requires passing qualification tests, NAVSEA-specified checks, and maintaining weld certifications.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, setting up equipment, welding in multiple positions, and ensuring compliance with procedures. DoD eligibility and security clearances may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must pass entrance level weld qualification testing.
  • Vision test per NAVSEA requirement (yearly).
  • Welder workmanship training and test every three years.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and move components 12 ft.
  • US citizenship due to DoD requirements and ability to obtain DoD security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret detailed part and tool drawings and prepare surfaces for welding.
  • Set up welding and brazing equipment and position parts per drawings.
  • Weld in all positions and verify process specifications.
  • Remove slag, grind defects, and document weld sequences.
  • Perform nondestructive testing preparation and basic post-weld treatments.

With our continuing growth, Curtiss Wright is looking to add experienced Machinists to our new, state-of-the-art Summerville, SC (Charleston) facility! As our Sr. Welder, you will fabricate and repair parts by welding to ASME IX, MIL-STD codes and engineering welding requirements. Location: Summerville, SC Shift: 3rd (11pm-7am)

  • Hourly: $28.70 - $41.49 (With an additional shift premium)

Your Challenge
  • Read and interpret detailed part and tool drawings
  • Obtain all tools, fixtures and related equipment
  • Prepare all surfaces, assemble and position parts, as required, to be welded, also including layout, assembly, and fabrication to drawing requirements
  • Assemble components or assemblies to positioners
  • Set up required welding and brazing equipment
  • Verify process specifications follow prescribed procedures and perform assigned operations in all positions, as certified
  • Remove slag, chip, grind, visible defects before depositing subsequent passes
  • Document metal joining sequences as required
  • Grind and prepare surfaces for nondestructive examinations, and perform magna flux or penetrant testing
  • Operate ovens for pre-heating, post weld heat treatment, or stress relief as required per specifications
  • Use crane or lifting devices for heavier components
  • Train others when necessary
  • Complete weld certification testing in a timely manner to meet code, process, or base metal requirements to satisfy customer orders
  • Maintain filler metal storage and traceability per requirements
  • Perform routine machine and equipment checks
  • Maintain cleanliness, lubrication and fluid levels, and perform simple machine error recovery
  • Observe all safety and hygiene requirements as specified and directed
What You Bring
  • High school and certified welding program or equivalent
  • 4-6 year's experience
  • Must pass entrance level weld qualification testing, Vision test per NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 Section 5.2.12 (yearly)
  • Welder Workmanship Training & Test per NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 Section 5.2.3 (ever three years)
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50lbs to waist height and transport a distance of 12 feet
  • Ability to perform the following: pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals
