Job summary

The City of Tigard is seeking a skilled maintenance professional to support our water distribution system and related projects. You will supervise and assist as technical lead, perform preventive maintenance, inspect piping, and respond to customer questions.

This role participates in rotating 9‑hour shifts with a three‑day weekend every other week. Applicants should have a high school diploma with college coursework or technical training and at least four years of skilled maintenance experience

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of 12th grade with two years of college-level coursework or specialized technical training and four years of skilled maintenance experience in water distribution.
• Experience in water distribution systems and preventive maintenance work.
• Ability to supervise and direct utility technicians and staff when needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist as technical lead in water distribution projects and preventive maintenance programs.
• Inspect and repair underground water pipes, valves, meters, and appurtenances to locate leaks and perform maintenance.
• Respond to customer calls about leaks and water usage questions; provide professional information and support.
• Provide technical direction to assigned team members and ensure quality control of work.
• Operate within the Asset Maintenance Management System (AMMS) and support system improvements.
• Collaborate with other municipal teams to maintain reliable water service and respond to emergencies.

• Will assist as technical lead in Aquifer Storage and Recovery projects including well pump/motor/motor control center rehabilitation.
• Assist as technical lead implementing capital maintenance projects.
• Will take part and assist as technical lead in operating and maintaining the water distribution system hydraulic network
• Assist in implementing a new preventive maintenance program in our Asset Maintenance Management System (AMMS) over the next year.
• Provides technical and functional direction to assigned water utility technicians and utility worker maintenance staff; reviews and controls quality of work; participates in performing routine to complex maintenance and repair work.
• Inspects and repairs underground water pipes, valves, meters, and associated appurtenances to locate leaks, breaks, and infiltration on a scheduled preventive as well as corrective maintenance basis.
• Responds to customer calls regarding leaks, questions, or complaints about reported water usage, water quality, and other customer-related issues.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by two (2) years of college-level coursework or specialized technical training in a related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience performing skilled maintenance experience in water distribution systems.

Schedule:

General working days are Monday thru Thursday one week (9-hour shifts) and Friday off. The following week will be Monday thru Thursday (9-hour shifts) and an 8-hour shift on Friday. This schedule provides a three-day weekend every other week.
