Job summary

The City of Naperville's Water Utility is seeking a Senior Water Utility Technician in the Water Supply section to perform skilled work in operation, inspection, sanitation, maintenance, and/or repair of the City's water supply systems. The position is union represented by IBEW Local 196, with wage rates and benefits governed by the collective bargaining agreement.

The role requires monitoring pumping and pressure, repairing pumps, PLCs, PRVs, chlorination systems, and other equipment;

Qualifications

• Monitors water supply system to ensure proper pumping and pressures.
• Plans and performs mechanical and electrical repair on pumps, PLCs, PRVs, feeders and other water equipment.
• Operates and maintains pumps, control panels, PLCs, and related equipment.
• Maintains accurate daily records of operations, water usage, tank levels and chemical feed rates.
• Installs modifications to water facilities and maintains records.
• Prioritizes safety and reports unsafe conditions to supervisors.
• Prepares progress and regulatory reports.
• Drives to tanks and stations to perform operations.
• Transports chlorine gas and other chemicals as needed.
• Maintains buildings and grounds around facilities.
• May train subordinate staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pumping systems to maintain pressures and flow.
• Repair water treatment equipment and controls including PLCs and PRVs.
• Recordkeeping of water usage, tank levels and chemical feeds.
• Travel to facilities daily to conduct operations and system checks.
• Ensure safety compliance and report hazards.
• Prepare monthly regulatory reports.
