Job summary

The Valdosta Police Department is seeking an individual to manage water distribution and wastewater service repairs. Responsibilities include locating and repairing leaks, installing water and sewer mains, and maintaining street and sidewalk integrity.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of water and wastewater systems, hold relevant Georgia state certifications, and possess skills in problem-solving and interpersonal relations. Salary is $17.08 per hour.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Responsibilities

• Locates and repairs leaks in water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Installs new water and sewer mains and services.
• Operates camera units to identify line blockages and breaks.
• Repairs and replaces fire hydrants.
• Makes street, sidewalk, and lawn repairs.

Skills

Knowledge of department safety policies and procedures

Knowledge of water and wastewater system maintenance and repair principles

Knowledge of utility meter operations and maintenance principles

Skill in the use of handheld computers and job-related software

Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment

Skill in problem solving

Skill in interpersonal relations

Education

Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia

Georgia state-certified license for Water Distribution Systems Operators

Georgia state-certified license for Wastewater Collection Systems Operators
