Job summary

Valdosta Police Department is seeking candidates for a position responsible for maintenance of the wastewater collection and water distribution systems. Duties include locating and repairing leaks, operating remote control camera units to identify blockages, and maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment.

The ideal candidate should possess skills in various maintenance tasks, have some knowledge of area streets, and be able to communicate effectively. A valid Georgia driver’s license is also required.

Qualifications

• Skill in the use of handheld computers and job-related software.

Responsibilities

• Locates and repairs leaks in the water distribution and wastewater collection system.
• Installs new water and sewer mains and services.
• Operates remote control and manual camera units to identify line blockages and breaks.
• Repairs and replaces fire hydrants.
• Locates and excavates underground utilities; makes street, sidewalk and lawn repairs.
• Makes sewer and water main line repairs.
• Repairs manholes.
• Changes out meters.
• Replaces meter boxes and lids.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Performs related duties.
