Job summary

The City of Caldwell Water Department is seeking a Service Operator III to perform advanced diagnostics, lead meter and service projects, and resolve customer issues in an outdoor, dynamic work environment.

Ideal candidates have four+ years in water utility service, AMR/AMI experience, and a valid Idaho driver’s license, with licensing progression supported. The role requires leadership, after-hours availability, and collaboration with billing and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in water utility service, distribution, or metering.
  • Experience leading service crews or projects.
  • Experience with automated meter reading systems (AMR/AMI).

Responsibilities

  • Lead technician for meter installation, calibration, and advanced diagnostics.
  • Oversee customer service investigations involving billing disputes, consumption analysis, and pressure/flow complaints.
  • Provide mentorship and field training to junior operators.
  • Coordinate with billing, engineering, and production staff to resolve complex service issues.
  • Respond to emergencies, including service line breaks and outages.
  • Operate and maintain AMR/AMI systems and software.
