Job description

We are seeking a Senior Wastewater Process Engineer to lead the development, optimisation and delivery of wastewater treatment solutions across a range of complex projects. This role will suit an experienced process engineer with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and the ability to guide projects from concept through to commissioning and operational support. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and regulators to ensure that treatment systems are safe, efficient, compliant and fit for purpose.

Your responsibilities will include developing process designs, calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, hydraulic profiles, equipment specifications and control philosophies for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment systems. You will assess existing assets, identify opportunities for process improvement, and recommend practical solutions that enhance performance, resilience, energy efficiency and whole-life value. You will contribute to feasibility studies, tender submissions, technical reports, risk assessments and design reviews, while ensuring work is delivered to relevant legislation, standards and project requirements. You may also support site investigations, construction activities, commissioning, performance testing and troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in chemical, environmental, civil or process engineering, or a related discipline, with substantial experience in wastewater treatment design and process engineering. You should have a sound understanding of biological and physical treatment processes, sludge treatment, nutrient removal, odour control and process optimisation. Experience with design software, modelling tools and relevant industry standards is highly desirable. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status would be advantageous. Strong communication, technical writing and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to mentor engineers, manage competing priorities and take ownership of deliverables.
