Job summary

The Town of Ocean City, MD is seeking an experienced Chief Plant Operator to supervise the wastewater treatment facility and pumping stations. You will oversee daily operations, ensure permit compliance, and guide the Operations team.

The role requires a Class 5 Wastewater license, strong chemistry and maintenance knowledge, and the ability to manage safety, budgets, and cross-department coordination within a municipal setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum ten years in related field with supervisory experience.
• Equivalent education with training in environmental science or chemistry.
• MD Class 5 wastewater operator license required; superintendent license within one year.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Directs, plans and coordinates work assignments of operations personnel.
• Audits plant operator reports and ensures compliance with procedures.
• Prepares required state and municipal reports, including NPDES permit reporting.
• Oversees preventive maintenance and assigns equipment maintenance tasks.
• Manages budget elements in coordination with the Wastewater Superintendent.
• Maintains safety guidelines and COOP/LEPC participation.
