The City of Santa Maria seeks a Wastewater Manager to lead the planning and operation of its wastewater system, including treatment, sewer collection, and related infrastructure. You will oversee 15 staff, partner with Regulatory Compliance, Engineering/Technology, and Administration, and drive the major modernization initiative.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental sciences, or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of safe and effective operation of wastewater and sewer systems with regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing diverse staff, leading large teams, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience identifying and implementing complex capital projects and solutions related to wastewater treatment, sewer collections, infrastructure, technology, regulatory compliance, and operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct day-to-day operations and maintenance of the wastewater system.
  • Lead a team of 15 including supervisors, lead operators, operators, and maintenance workers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Regulatory Compliance, Engineering/Technology, and Administration to ensure efficient service.
