Job summary

Durham County Government in Durham, NC seeks an Operations & Maintenance Specialist III to perform senior-level, skilled work at the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant. You will lead maintenance activities, oversee process control, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor junior staff.

The role requires five years in wastewater treatment or related fields, a Grade IV BWPC certification, and a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years in municipal/industrial wastewater treatment with two years in lead or supervisory role.
• Must possess Grade IV NC BWPC Operator certification and a valid NC driver's license.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance with teams to minimize downtime.
• Maintain records and logs for regulatory compliance.
• Lead operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment processes.
• Assist in inventory control and procurement of equipment and chemicals.
• Assist in monthly work schedule preparation.
• Coordinate sampling schedules for process control and compliance monitoring.
• Perform process control testing on plant samples.
• Assist in preparing required reports.
• Serve as backup operator as needed.
• Monitor and adjust process control with SCADA.
• Backup laboratory analyst.
• Provide training and mentorship to staff.
• Participate in emergency response and special projects.
