Job summary

GMB is actively seeking mid-to-senior Wastewater Engineers to lead engineering design, permitting, and client management for complex wastewater projects.

You will oversee WWTPs, pumping stations, and collection systems across Maryland, Delaware, and the eastern shore of Virginia, with a flexible hybrid/partial-remote schedule to balance Salisbury office collaboration and focused work from home.

Qualifications

• 5 to 7+ years of civil/environmental engineering experience focused on municipal wastewater systems.
• B.S. in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Active Professional Engineer license in Maryland or eligible for reciprocity within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design for wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations, and networks.
• Navigate permitting with MDE, DNREC, VA DEQ, EPA, and others.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets; mentor junior staff.
• Serve as primary contact for municipal clients and present findings at workshops.

The Opportunity

GMB is seeking two (2) mid-to-senior level Wastewater Engineers (5-7+ years of experience) ready to step into high-visibility project ownership and accelerate their path toward Project Management and firm leadership.

In this role, you will lead the engineering design, permitting, and client management for complex wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), pumping stations, and collection systems throughout Maryland, Delaware, and the eastern shore of Virginia. Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Design: Lead the preparation of comprehensive engineering planning, construction plans, specifications, hydraulic modeling analysis, and cost estimates for wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations, and collection networks.
• Permitting & Compliance: Navigate and secure regulatory approvals through the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ), EPA, and other project specific review agencies.
• Project Management & Leadership: Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets. Direct and mentor junior Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and CAD designers. Proficiency related to funding agencies’ (e.g., MDE, DNREC, USDA) loan and grant applications, fund securing, and project cost and funding tracking.
• Client & Stakeholder Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for municipal clients, presenting technical findings at public workshops, city council meetings, and agency reviews.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 5 to 7+ years of progressive experience specializing in civil/environmental engineering with a dedicated focus on municipal wastewater systems.
• Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Maryland, or a P.E. in another jurisdiction with the ability to obtain Maryland reciprocity within 90 days.
• Technical Tools: Proficiency with hydraulic modeling software (e.g., KY Pipes, Sewer CAD) and familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D workflows.
• Local Insight: Proven track record interfacing with MDE and DNREC regulatory frameworks and mid-Atlantic municipal clients is highly preferred.
