Job summary

Energetics Technology Center in Indian Head, MD seeks a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop physics-based models of shock, energetic-material response, and terminal effects for warhead analyses and defense programs. You will calibrate models with experimental data and coordinate with test and government teams to inform design decisions.

The hybrid, full-time position requires a BS (MS/PhD preferred) in engineering/physics, 7+ years of relevant experience, and the ability to obtain a U.S.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Experience with CTH, EPIC or comparable hydrocode/FE tools for high-rate dynamics.
• Knowledge of shock physics, Hugoniot relations, EOS, and energetic-material burn-rate modeling.
• Experience planning and interpreting gas-gun, ballistics, fragmentation, or related tests.
• Ability to calibrate, validate, and document models against experimental data with uncertainty analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and interpret physics-based simulations of warheads, materials, and target response.
• Analyze blast, fragmentation, and weapon-performance phenomena using first-principles methods.
• Translate questions into modeling approaches and plan test objectives and criteria.
• Plan and support gas-gun and related experiments to validate models.
• Compare predictions with measurements, document discrepancies, and suggest design changes.
