Job summary

MDREN within the University System of Maryland seeks a senior network professional to maintain statewide WAN infrastructure, lead high‑capacity backbone upgrades (100G/400G), and collaborate with member institutions on interconnection design.

You'll design and deploy DWDM optical transport, supervise staff, manage complex projects, monitor security, and help shape long‑term network evolution across the public research and education network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in CS/CE/related field.
• 7+ years networking experience with large design projects.
• Experience with WAN design, DWDM, ROADM configurations.
• Hands-on with major switches/routers (Cisco/Juniper/Brocade/Arista).
• Ability to lead teams and manage complex network upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Maintain MDREN WAN infrastructure for high availability.
• Design and deploy DWDM optical transport and ROADM configurations.
• Collaborate with member institutions on interconnection design.
• Provide technical oversight for network services and documentation.
• Lead and coordinate network upgrades and projects.
• Monitor security events and respond to incidents.
• Support website content related to network services.
