Job summary

TelevisaUnivision, Inc. is seeking a senior streaming infrastructure engineer to architect and scale our media delivery stack. You will work across video transcoding, packaging, rights management, and CDN strategies to ensure high-quality playback for global audiences.

Role emphasizes Kubernetes, Envoy service meshes, serverless edges, and IaC on GCP/AWS. CWIP certification and experience with Widevine/DASH are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, or Rust.
• Advanced expertise designing, deploying, and operating Kubernetes-based systems.
• Experience implementing Envoy within complex microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in CDN configuration and optimization, including VCL scripting (e.g., Fastly).
• Deep knowledge of streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, CMAF) and low-latency streaming.
• Experience with ad stitching/dynamic ad insertion integrations (GAM).
• Hands-on DRM experience with SPEKE, Widevine, PlayReady; CWIP certification preferred.

The Engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and scaling the infrastructure that powers high-quality video streaming experiences for millions of users worldwide. This role sits at the intersection of site reliability engineering, DevOps, and media workflows, with a strong focus on video delivery systems and streaming technologies.
You will play a critical role in architecting and evolving our media infrastructure, leveraging both open-source and proprietary technologies to support live and on-demand streaming at scale.

About You

You bring deep expertise in building and scaling media and streaming infrastructure. You are passionate about solving complex distributed systems challenges and have a strong understanding of video streaming technologies, cloud platforms, and modern DevOps practices.
You thrive in highly technical environments, enjoy working across teams, and are motivated to build resilient, high-performance systems that deliver seamless playback experiences to global audiences.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

• Design, architect, and implement scalable streaming infrastructure using both open-source and proprietary technologies
• Build and optimize systems including:
• Video transcoding pipelines
• Just-in-time (JIT) packaging
• Rights and entitlements management systems
• CDN caching strategies for VOD and live streaming delivery
• Server-side ad insertion (SSAI)
• Service mesh architectures (Envoy)
• Develop and manage cloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code across platforms such as GCP and AWS
• Build, operate, and scale containerized media workflows on Kubernetes
• Leverage serverless technologies including edge compute, Cloud Run, and Cloud Functions
• Define and implement high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery strategies aligned with SLAs
• Manage automation and orchestration platforms supporting production services

YOU HAVE: (Qualifications, Experience)

• Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript or Rust
• Advanced expertise designing, deploying, and operating systems on Kubernetes
• Experience implementing Envoy within complex microservices architectures
• Proficiency in CDN configuration and optimization, including VCL scripting (e.g., Fastly)

Deep knowledge of streaming protocols and formats, including:

• HLS, DASH, CMAF
• Low-latency streaming (LL-HLS, LL-DASH)
• Experience with ad stitching and dynamic ad insertion, including integrations with Google Ad Manager (GAM)

Hands-on experience implementing and managing DRM systems, including:

• SPEKE v1/v2
• FairPlay, Widevine, PlayReady
• Content encryption and protection mechanisms
• Certified Widevine Implementation Partner (CWIP) certification required. Certification demonstrates proficiency in the installation, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of Google Widevine Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems.
• Experience with AWS Elemental Media Services (3+ years preferred)
• Strong experience with GCP infrastructure (GKE, Cloud Run) (5+ years preferred)
• Expertise in infrastructure as code tools such as Pulumi
• Experience working with modern media codecs and formats such as AV1 and CMAF
