Job summary

The Senior Veterinary Assistant (SVA) at the ASPCA Community Medicine team works alongside vets and technicians to prepare animals for surgery, enter medical records, and monitor patients. This on-site role is based at the South LA Clinic with a Monday–Friday schedule and occasional shifts beyond the standard day.

You will contribute to caring for cats and dogs in underserved communities. The SVA supports spay/neuter and primary care, provides client communication, and helps maintain patient

Qualifications

• Experience using a computer and navigating software applications.
• Ability to lift and carry 40+ pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to stand for 8+ hours.
• Fear Free Shelter certification within 60 days of hire.
• Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt protocols.

Responsibilities

• Care for cats and dogs presented for spay/neuter.
• Assist veterinarian and staff; handle animals; prepare for surgery.
• Enter medical information into digital databases.
• Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients.
• Greet clients and assist with intake; explain medical concepts.
• Represent ASPCA professionally; adhere to OSHA and CM SOPs.
