Job summary

The Senior Veterinary Assistant (SVA) at ASPCA’s South LA Clinic supports two program functions—spay/neuter surgery and primary pet care—for cats and dogs in our service area. You will communicate with clients, assist veterinarians and technicians, handle animals, prepare them for surgery, enter medical records, and monitor patients during anesthesia.

This on-site role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with some flexibility.

Qualifications

• English is required; bilingual Spanish is strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year animal handling experience in a professional setting.

Responsibilities

• Care for cats and dogs presented for spay/neuter surgery; monitor patients under anesthesia.
• Enter medical information into digital databases and maintain records.
• Communicate with clients in a professional, non-judgmental manner; explain veterinary concepts.
• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during procedures and patient preparation.
• Ensure safety and adherence to OSHA protocols; collaborate with CM staff.
