Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Senior Vehicle Engineer (M.S./Ph.D.) to join our Vehicle Engineering Practice in multiple U.S. locations.

You will work on consulting projects involving accident analysis, vehicle structures, and performance assessment, combining technical depth with clear communication. You will lead field and lab tests, develop specialized expertise in emerging vehicle technologies, manage projects, contribute to business development, and occasionally travel within the U.S.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (M.S./M.Eng.) or Ph.D. in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering; at least one degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Authorized to work in the United States with no immigration sponsorship required.
• For master's candidates, at least four years of relevant automotive engineering experience.
• For Ph.D. candidates, at least three years of relevant automotive engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical engineering analyses of accidents involving passenger and heavy vehicles.
• Conduct field investigations and inspections.
• Plan and execute field and lab tests, including full-scale crash tests and component evaluations.
• Apply testing and measurements to refine or demonstrate analyses.
• Analyze mechanical failures and evaluate vehicle technology and safety.
• Identify research needs and conduct original research advancing accident reconstruction and automotive tech.
• Manage projects from initiation to completion and communicate progress to teams and clients.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Travel within the U.S. for vehicle inspections.
• Develop specialized technical expertise and contribute to business development.
