Job summary

General Motors Corporation in Milford, Michigan (Hybrid) seeks a Senior System and System Safety Engineer to lead the Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation (VDSE) safety efforts and state estimation across GM vehicle programs. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or related field of study.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in systems engineering or functional safety.
• Experience developing or integrating embedded control systems.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to operate test vehicles as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the definition and completion of the VDSE system safety case for GM vehicle programs.
• Define functional and performance requirements in collaboration with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
• Employ hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, FMEA, and related techniques to assess safety.
• Support execution of new requirements and cascading roll-down to impacted organizations, ensuring alignment and traceability.
• Guide confirmation of requirements through analysis, simulation, and physical testing (including HIL benches and vehicles).
• Utilize model-based systems engineering techniques to improve traceability and design quality.
• Serve as the corporation's subject matter expert for VDSE, influencing technology direction and issue resolution.
