Job summary

Inversion Space Company in California seeks a Senior Propulsion and Energetics Thermofluids Engineer to lead vacuum chamber systems for a hypersonic plasma wind tunnel and heat exchanger cooling design.

You will conduct thermal/fluids analyses, lead 3D CHT modeling, and drive trades across performance, cost, and manufacturability while owning CAD models, drawings, and BOM for prototype and flight hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of thermal design, modeling, and analysis of high-temperature systems.
• Strong practical mechanical design skills for industrial systems and high thermal-load equipment.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as Siemens NX.
• Experience producing engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop, ANSYS Thermal or equivalent.
• Solid background in multi-physics heat transfer and thermodynamics.
• Experience taking thermal systems from concept to hardware tests.
• Ability to work independently and set technical standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Design vacuum chamber and heat exchanger cooling systems for a high-energy plasma test bed.
• Perform thermal and fluid analyses on industrial-scale equipment.
• Conduct transient 3D conjugate heat transfer modeling and set boundary conditions.
• Trade studies balancing performance, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
• Size and select interfaces between test facility and TPS insulation.
• Own CAD models, drawings, releases, and BOM for prototype hardware.
• Support prototype design, integration, and issue resolution during build.
• Collaborate with vehicle, manufacturing, test, supply chain, and technicians.
• Coordinate with outside vendors to source parts and accelerate development.
