Job summary

Inversion, headquartered in Playa Vista, CA, is seeking a Senior Propulsion and Energetics Thermofluids Engineer to lead vacuum chamber systems for a hypersonic plasma wind tunnel.

You will own CAD models and BOM, perform thermal analyses, and collaborate with vehicle, manufacturing, and suppliers to bring designs from concept through fabrication.

The role requires a 5+ year background in thermal design and a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; in-office presence is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in thermal design and high-temperature systems.
• Strong CAD design skills with industrial systems experience.
• Proficiency in GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with thermal analysis software (Thermal Desktop/ANSYS).

Responsibilities

• Lead vacuum chamber and heat exchanger cooling system design with detailed drawings.
• Perform thermal and fluid analyses on industrial-scale equipment.
• Oversee 3D conjugate heat transfer (CHT) modeling and high-fidelity thermal analyses.
• Coordinate design trades among performance, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
• Own the sizing, selection, and interface design between test facility and insulation materials.
• Manage CAD models, drawings, and BOM for prototypes and flight-like hardware.
• Support prototype design and integration during build.
• Collaborate with vehicle, manufacturing, test, supply chain, and technicians.
