Job summary

The Will Group in Wheaton, IL seeks a Senior Design Engineer – Electrical Distribution to lead overhead and underground distribution projects for major utility clients. You will perform load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and protection coordination analyses and act as a technical lead for client engagements.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in utility engineering, a PE license or the ability to obtain it, and strong communication skills to mentor staff and drive project success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• PE license required (or ability to obtain immediately).
• 8+ years of utility or utility consulting experience.
• Experience with CYME, Synergi, ETAP, or similar analysis tools.
• Client-facing experience and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering for overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Execute and review load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
• Serve as a technical lead and trusted advisor to utility clients.
• Support infrastructure planning, grid modernization, DER integration, and reliability improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Help drive successful project delivery across multiple utility organizations.
