Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Utilities Operator in the United States (KY) to independently operate and maintain GMP pharmaceutical utility systems with minimal supervision. The role requires 5+ years in utilities or mechanical operations, a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work a 12-hour night shift (5:00 PM–5:30 AM) with onboarding to days in 2027.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in utilities, industrial, or mechanical operations.
  • Experience in a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to respond to call-in and scheduled overtime work.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to withstand temperature variations outdoors in winter/summer.
  • Ability to wear respiratory equipment and work at elevated heights.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; no visa sponsorship.
  • Experience operating pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, compressed air, or water treatment equipment.
  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting equipment/process issues in industrial/manufacturing environments.
  • Proficient in data entry, log keeping, and GMP/regulatory documentation.
  • Experience supporting or training less experienced team members.
  • Familiarity with work order systems, CMMS, or maintenance docs.
  • Commitment to safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operate, monitor, and maintain assigned utility systems with minimal oversight.
  • Manage utility systems including high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, heated water, glycol systems, domestic water, cooling towers, waste streams, VOC management, nitrogen systems, aqueous waste neutralization, and tank farm management.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards across utility operations areas.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Communicate findings and actions to supervisory personnel.
  • Support training and development of Operators.
  • Share knowledge, demonstrate correct procedures, and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Recommend continuous improvement ideas and identify safety concerns.
  • Elevate observations to the Expert Operator or Lead Operator for follow-up.
  • Follow SOPs, GMP requirements, and site EH&S protocols.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation according to Good Documentation Practices.
  • Work a permanent night shift on a fixed 12-hour 3-2-2-3 schedule, 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM.
  • Initially work a temporary day shift during onboarding and site startup before transitioning to nights in 2027.
  • Travel minimally, less than 10%.

Job description

  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting common equipment and process issues in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in data entry, log keeping, and documentation practices consistent with GMP and regulatory requirements
  • Prior experience supporting or participating in training less experienced team members
  • Familiarity with work order systems, CMMS platforms, or maintenance documentation tools
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment
