Job summary

Metric Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Urban and Regional Planning Project Manager with a strong background in local government planning. You will manage multiple planning projects from scoping to completion, coordinating with municipal and county clients and MPO/TPOs.

The role requires leadership, budgeting, and client management across diverse projects. The position is hybrid and can report to Miami, Lake Mary, Tampa, Jacksonville, or Panama City offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or related field is required; Master’s degree preferred.
• AICP certification required.
• Strong working knowledge of Florida growth management law (Chapter 163, F.S.), comprehensive planning, and zoning and land development processes.
• Established relationships with Florida local governments and planning agencies are a plus.
• Experience with proposal development and client management.

Responsibilities

• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and staffing for multiple concurrent planning projects.
• Serve as the primary client contact with local government staff, elected officials, MPO/TPOs, DOT, and other agencies.
• Lead development of comprehensive plan amendments, land development code updates, zoning analyses, and development review.
• Coordinate stakeholder and public involvement activities, including workshops, public hearings, and planning board or commission meetings.
• Present findings and recommendations to planning boards, city and county commissions, and the public.
• Review and QC technical reports, staff reports, plans, and displays prepared by project staff.
• Prepare scopes of work, fee estimates, and invoices; monitor project financials.
• Support business development: proposals, SOQs, and interview presentations.
• Oversee grant applications and funding documentation for local government clients.
• Mentor and supervise junior planners and support staff.
• Coordinate with engineering and environmental staff on transportation planning and PD&E efforts.
