Job summary

The City of Bellevue is seeking a Senior Planner/Urban Designer to advance strategic planning and urban design in the Strategic Planning Team. You will translate policy into design concepts and lead large, complex projects that shape Bellevue’s future.

This role requires strong project management, public engagement, and collaboration with City Council, multiple departments, and stakeholders. A master’s degree is preferred and five or more years of experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of project management across all phases and ability to lead complex projects.
• Experience in transit-oriented development, placemaking, urban design, site planning, and spatial analysis.
• Ability to communicate with officials, stakeholders, and the public; manage budgets and contracts; and coordinate with consultants.

Responsibilities

• Provide project management for large, complex initiatives.
• Strategize spatial configurations aligned with development goals.
• Represent design concepts to city council, boards, commissions, and stakeholders.
• Align policy, regulation and economic goals with design documentation.
• Produce visual translations of development concepts and feasibility.
• Identify typologies and prototypes for housing, retail and commercial sites.
• Test economic constraints and regulatory implications with feasibility analyses.
• Serve on regional committees representing Bellevue.
• Generate reports on TOD, placemaking, and design.
• Lead public engagement events and support inter-department efforts.
