Job summary

Bowie State University is hiring a Controller to lead the Budget Office's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. The role supervises General Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable, ensuring accuracy, compliance with GASB standards, and timely financial statements across funds.

The Controller will drive close processes, assist with audits, and partner with leadership to provide actionable financial guidance for strategic decisions and stewardship of public funds.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GASB and public higher education reporting is required.
• Experience with audits and external reporting is essential.
• Proven ability to lead accounting teams and improve processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger and revenue/expense recognition.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Coordinate external audits and single audits.
• Develop and enforce accounting policies and controls.
• Provide financial analysis and guidance to campus leadership.
• Supervise assigned accounting staff and develop talent.
