Job summary

Slash, in-person role based in our New York City office, is seeking an Underwriting Lead to make high‑quality credit decisions and scale underwriting policy into a smoother customer experience. Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience, with SMBs, commercial cards, working-capital products, or fintech lending preferred.
• Ability to analyze business financial statements, cash flow, liquidity, leverage, repayment capacity, bank activity and bureau data.
• Ability to write concise, defensible credit recommendations.
• Experience operating within credit policy, delegated authority, exception governance, and regulated environments.
• Strong cross-functional communication with a focus on turnaround, auditability, and explaining tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new accounts and material exposure changes using finance data and internal signals.
• Prepare clear credit memos and recommendations; apply delegated authority when appropriate.
• Own queue health, document collection, decision turnaround, rework, and escalation; monitor metrics.
• Drive decision documentation, reason codes, approval conditions, and exception tracking.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, Fraud, Legal/Compliance, Operations and partners to build evidence and audit trails.
• Train and coach future underwriting team members and develop durable procedures.
