Job summary

Splitero, Inc. seeks a Manager of Underwriting to lead and develop a high-performing underwriting team responsible for timely, accurate decisions in a fast-paced startup environment.

The role collaborates with Processing and People Ops to streamline workflows and ensure adherence to underwriting standards aligned with business goals. You will source and hire, coach performance, and drive policies while overseeing cross-functional projects.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in underwriting residential loans.
• Ability to work in the San Diego office starting January 2027.
• Experience leading a high-performing team.
• Proven history of managing projects from ideation to execution.
• Ability to write effective policies and procedures.
• Ability to evaluate risk-based decisions and ensure consistent quality across underwriters.
• Experience navigating cross-functional team dynamics and building consistency across adjacent teams.
• Demonstrated leadership with constructive conversations, deadlines, and regular communication to management.
• Ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Experience working with HEIs is preferred.
• Desire to participate in a fast-paced early-stage startup.

Responsibilities

• Partner with People Ops to source, screen, interview, and present offers; lead hiring for your team and contribute to onboarding decisions.
• Oversee performance management for team members; complete performance reviews, deliver feedback, sustain coaching plans through to resolution.
• Cultivate and maintain a positive team culture; plan proactive employee engagement initiatives and resolve conflicts.
• Train and onboard all new hires, ensuring ramp-up efficiency.
• Lead projects related to the team; scope, create timelines, allocate resources, organize meetings, delegate tasks, and report progress.
• Manage the pipeline and workload for all team members, ensuring high performance.
• Own development, implementation, and changes to policies and procedures.
• Align department goals with company-wide objectives on a quarterly basis; drive department and IC goals.
• Analyze data related to underwriting area, produce insights, and present to leadership.
• Serve as main point of contact for escalations and questions from team members.
• Manage and coach to underwriting quality KPIs, use data to identify patterns and teachable moments.
• Act as primary cross-functional liaison between Underwriting and Processing to reduce friction and improve pipeline health.
