We are seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant

with a proven track record of making sound underwriting decisions, building strong relationships, and communicating effectively. Join us on our transformation journey to simplify the insurance process for our customers. This role is responsible for providing underwriting subject matter expertise and collaborating with cross-functional teams including actuaries, operations specialists, data scientists, and developers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate research and development skills, innovative thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:
  1. Research, analyze, and recommend on new data sources and underwriting techniques.
  2. Collaborate to develop innovative, data-driven underwriting solutions that ensure a seamless customer experience.
  3. Support product development initiatives.
  4. Analyze underwriting data through studies and claims experience where applicable.
  5. Prioritize projects to maximize business value.
  6. Stay informed about external factors affecting underwriting, such as medical, technical advancements, industry rules, and regulations.
  7. Monitor competitor actions and industry trends.
  8. Work with internal stakeholders to recommend and implement guideline changes.
  9. Coordinate with external vendors and technologies supporting business capabilities.
  10. Apply innovative thinking and creative problem-solving to complex underwriting challenges.
  11. Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting practices and procedures.
  12. Communicate results and progress effectively to senior management.
Requirements:
  1. Knowledge of underwriting risk assessment, including medical, non-medical, and financial aspects.
  2. Experience with technology implementations, requirements communication, and testing.
  3. Self-motivated, able to problem-solve and execute under deadlines.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable presenting to senior leaders.
  5. Ability to convey complex underwriting concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  6. Strong collaboration skills across technical and functional teams.
  7. Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and web tools.
  8. Degree in science, medical, or related field, or 5-10 years of underwriting/research experience.
  9. FALU/FLMI certification is a plus.
  10. Ability to work across virtual teams and in collaborative environments.
  11. Willingness to travel occasionally.
