About The RoleThe underwriting team is responsible for evaluating new life insurance applications, focusing on delivering a superior customer experience. The Senior Underwriting Consultant assesses medical and financial risks to protect mortality results while supporting sales. The role requires excellent communication, customer focus, and accountability for accurate, timely processing.
This position reports to the Underwriting Director and collaborates with Case Managers, Wholesalers, and FMO’s/Firms.
Responsibilities- Underwrite complex formal and informal applications, making independent decisions within approval limits.
- Analyze complex information to reach comprehensive medical and financial assessments based on guidelines.
- Manage change effectively, resolve conflicts, and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Understand work process impacts across functions.
- Organize and manage a large caseload efficiently.
- Demonstrate advanced underwriting knowledge and skills.
- Provide training on underwriting topics internally and externally.
- Interact independently with sophisticated field teams targeting upscale markets.
Qualifications- 5+ years of life underwriting experience handling mid-level face amount cases
- Experience with various distribution systems
- Approval authority up to $7,000,000
- FLMI, FALU, or CLU designations preferred or in progress
