The Senior Underwriting Consultant will analyze health benefit plan characteristics and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity of loss of clients. They will utilize underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies. They will also build and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives. The Senior Underwriting Consultant is responsible for the evaluation and recommend alternative pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis and trends.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial modeling for reserve calculation, budget calculation, and other ongoing reviews that directly aligns with client strategies
  • Validate renewals and request for proposals for accuracy including utilization and experience reporting
  • Conduct competitive analysis of all coverage lines and present financial and contractual findings

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare underwriting for any variety of products: self-funded, ASO, fully insured, medical underwriting, or group
  • 5+ years of experience with Risk Management
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare Stop Loss underwriting (both Individual and Aggregate)
  • 10+ years of experience with Risk Management with a focus on large claim evaluation
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Data Aggregation, Manipulation, and Reporting
  • Presentation skills focusing on Stop Loss reporting
  • Mentoring and Coaching underwriters and team members
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
