Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Underwriting Analyst to support our Excess Casualty underwriting team. This role plays a critical part in the underwriting process by providing analytical, operational, and administrative support to underwriters managing complex casualty risks. The successful candidate will help evaluate new and renewal business opportunities, maintain the integrity of underwriting data, conduct portfolio analyses, and deliver exceptional service to brokers and internal stakeholders.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist underwriters with the evaluation of new and renewal Excess Casualty submissions.
- Review primary and excess/umbrella policies for completeness, identifying missing or inconsistent information.
- Prepare account summaries, loss analysis reports, and underwriting presentations.
- Gather and analyze exposure data, financial information, and loss data to support underwriting decisions.
- Support pricing indications through the use of underwriting tools and models.
- Prepare risk and portfolio reports for underwriters and management.
- Generate ad hoc reports to support business planning and underwriting strategy.
- Monitor data quality and ensure underwriting systems, including SharePoint and Guidewire, are accurately maintained.
- Assist with compiling information for internal audits, compliance reviews, and performance reporting.
- Serve as a point of contact for brokers and internal clients regarding submission requirements, account servicing, and underwriting documentation.
- Coordinate with brokers, underwriters, claims, and operations teams to facilitate timely business processing.
- Maintain underwriting files and documentation in accordance with company guidelines.
- Support policy issuance, binding, and endorsement processes.
- Participate in underwriting projects, process improvements, and system enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
- 5-7 years of casualty insurance experience, preferably in a role that required underwriting support, account analysis, policy review, or broker/client interaction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including the ability to work effectively with documents, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and collaboration platforms.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to underwriters, brokers, internal partners, and management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines, responding to shifting business needs, and maintaining accuracy.
- Strong analytical thinking, data interpretation, and reporting skills, including the ability to review complex information and identify trends, inconsistencies, and key underwriting considerations.
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and time management skills, with a commitment to producing complete, accurate, and timely work.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, teamwork, and customer service orientation, with the ability to build effective working relationships across underwriting, claims, operations, and broker partners.
Preferred
- Knowledge of SharePoint and Power BI
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations affecting commercial casualty insurance.
- Familiarity with underwriting principles, policy structures, coverage forms, and rating methodologies within the Excess Casualty market.
