Position Overview:

As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a critical role in driving profitability and growth to our expanding A&H business. Your experience underwriting ESL opportunities will be critical to providing our customers with valuable, timely services. This position partners closely with Actuarial, Account Management, IT, Finance, Operations, and external stakeholders to price, deliver, and help administer ESL policies. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated underwriting professional who is process-driven, strategic, and comfortable managing complexity in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Essential Job Functions:

• Review facultative referrals from program underwriters, providing decisions, quality feedback, and direction in a timely manner.
• Evaluate, price, and manage a portfolio of medical stop-loss cases, including both new business and renewals.
• Analyze risk profiles, claims data, and market trends to develop competitive and profitable underwriting strategies.
• Maintain underwriting discipline and ensure compliance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with MGUs, clients, brokers, and other stakeholders to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, risk management principles and state/federal regulations.
• Perform underwriting audits and facilitate claims/premium audits with internal/external auditors for assigned programs.
• Coordinate reinsurance support for programs, including negotiation of new business and renewal terms and conditions, and execution of new and renewal reinsurance agreements.
• Collaborate internally with operations, claims, and accounting to help administer program business.
• Manage multi-functional teams and projects to help achieve departmental goals.
• Stay up-to-date with market trends, products, competitor practices, emerging threats, and new developments in the market.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5-7 years of stop loss underwriting experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed underwriting decisions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting philosophy, methodologies, regulatory requirements, and state and federal filing guidelines.
• Strong understanding of underwriting reporting, financial analysis, and accounting principles.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data review, risk assessment, and decision-making.
• Proficiency in interpreting and utilizing Ugan and DYS (Connexure) underwriting outputs.
• Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel to client locations, industry conferences, and other Old Republic offices.
