Job summary

CopperPoint Insurance Companies is seeking a Senior Underwriter to drive profitable growth in commercial lines within an assigned territory, with emphasis on the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The role collaborates with a business development rep and senior underwriters to analyze accounts, price within guidelines, and maintain strong agency relationships.

The position requires 5-7 years of commercial insurance experience, strong sales skills, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• BS/BA college degree in business administration, finance or marketing.
• 5-7 years of commercial insurance experience.
• Advanced knowledge and/or experience with commercial underwriting, including Workers’ Compensation, Property, and Casualty lines.
• Strong sales and marketing skills to qualify opportunities and close deals.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Analyze commercial lines accounts to make sound decisions based on risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls.
• Adhere to individual authority levels and price business according to guidelines.
• Balance pricing and risk selection to produce profit and growth while maintaining productive producer relations.
• Communicate underwriting issues with agency personnel and present new and renewal proposals.
• Maintain high levels of customer service internally and externally and develop positive relationships with agency personnel.
• Collaborate with the business development representative to hold agencies accountable for flow, hit ratio, new business and retention goals.
• Serve as a resource for complex problems and educate agency staff on products, services and underwriting philosophy.
• Mentor less experienced underwriting team members.
