Job summary

CopperPoint Insurance Companies is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Seattle operations. This role supports disciplined underwriting, pricing, and agency marketing within an assigned territory, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, mentorship, and professional development.

You will analyze commercial lines, work with a business development representative, maintain productive agency relationships, and guide underwriting decisions to drive profitable growth.

Qualifications

• BS/BA college degree in business administration, finance or marketing.
• 5-7 years of commercial insurance experience.
• Advanced knowledge of commercial underwriting (Workers’ Compensation, Property, and Casualty).
• Strong sales, marketing and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes commercial lines accounts to make sound decisions based on risk characteristics and exposure analysis.
• Adheres to individual authority levels.
• Prices business according to underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Balances pricing with risk selection to produce profit and growth while maintaining producer relationships.
• Communicates underwriting issues with agency personnel, including declinations and exposure concerns.
• Presents new and renewal proposals to agency personnel.
• Maintains high level of customer service internally and externally.
• Meets with agency personnel regularly to build positive relationships.
• Collaborates with the business development rep to meet flow, hit ratio, and retention goals.
• Educates agency staff on products, services and underwriting philosophy.
• Trains and mentors less experienced underwriting team members.
