About the Role

Our client, a reputable insurance provider, is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter for Personal Lines to join their dedicated team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This role is crucial for managing and growing our personal lines portfolio, including household, vehicle, and other individual insurance products. The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating risks, determining policy terms and premiums, and ensuring profitability while providing exceptional service to our brokers and clients. Key Responsibilities

Evaluate and underwrite personal lines insurance applications, including household, motor, and travel insurance. Assess risk factors and determine appropriate coverage, terms, and premium rates in line with company guidelines. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with insurance brokers and agents. Monitor the performance of the personal lines portfolio and identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Ensure compliance with all relevant insurance regulations and internal policies. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriting staff. Review and adjust underwriting guidelines as needed to reflect market changes and risk appetite. Collaborate with the claims department to provide underwriting input on complex claims. Contribute to the development of new personal lines products and enhancements. Manage a portfolio of renewals and new business, ensuring efficient processing and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

A relevant tertiary qualification or professional insurance certification (e.g., NQF Level 5/6). A minimum of 5 years of experience in underwriting personal lines insurance. Strong knowledge of personal insurance products, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies. Understanding of the insurance market and regulatory environment in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . Excellent analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in underwriting systems and MS Office applications. Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines. A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Leadership qualities and experience in mentoring team members are advantageous.
